FICTIONAL CASE STUDY

Context: The organization works to protect and preserve natural areas in the United States. The use education and outreach to engage visitors and promote environmental protection. Due to COVID, there has been an uptick in visitors to the parks. Many of the new visitors are novice hikers.


Challenges: With the more visitors at the park, the more incidents there have been. This has put a strain on the park rangers and has cost the park system a lot in extra maintenance and rescue missions. The NPS needs some quick tools to help novice hikers prepare for their hikes and keep them safe. 


Solutions: This course is designed to teach the safety basics to novice hikers in a short amount of time. The use of visuals and quizzes help the learners to recall and apply the information to help them make safer choices when in the outdoors.


Results: The course roll out has been successful. Incidents are down 35%, saving the park system both time and money.
